I really am tired.
I get up and do it knowing these nurses so needed help and we were able to do that for them
It is still a serious situation and everyday has it's moments....
some I am keeping to myself and some that are pretty cool.
Every nurse on the floor we are helping got Covid.
Ya know why?
Because they were told they didn't need masks when the influx happened...
Notice how we are dressed now. Some departments wear entire bunny suits....
Some nurses are still out ...
5 of these nurses are travelers ( they are like me...there to help)
It is truly New York....
diverse, but we are all here in the same boat....
I'm digging it
Met this piece of work from GA.
She walked around with her mask like that for half the 12 hour shift before I told her it looks like she has a vagina on her face.
lord have mercy.
But you know what ?
It's ok because we laugh ....
we lighten the load for the nurses who saw their hospital going under with sickness, death and chaos...
We make a shitty situation better, because we know we don't have to stay.
We get to go home
They are the heroes.
and I like that.
The woman above took care of a man who tried his best...
the hospital even made an exception and let his daughter come in to see him.
It was heart breaking.
When she came out of the room she thanked us and we broke code and hugged her back...
She looked at that nurse above and said,"he's here and his wife of 67 years is right below him in ICU on a ventilator....they came in together"
It was heart breaking.
2 days later he passed away mid shift...even though he was talking 12 hours earlier....that's how fast it happens.
As his body was cleaned and ready for the next step, the Dr came up and said," his wife passed away 3 hours before him"
The daughter lost 2 parents....but the way I see it, the wife waited for him so that they could hold hands and walk into eternity together.
The same day we clapped and cheered as one of our other patients walked himself out of the hospital after 4 weeks fighting.
Ying and yang
It's lonely here,
but clearing
no one really knows me.
and that is ok
just breathe and know that life is difficult
we take so much for granted
from love to death to daily activities.
Just know, that when something good crosses your path....
grab it, don't question too much...
just risk it and run with it
Take the love someone gives you,
Take the touch, the smiles, the truths
and be grateful
you never know
