Weekend

6 more days till the beach. Our weekend was full and exhausting. The highlight, by far, was Rylands #5 Bday. Synda did face painting and really out did herself as usual. The kids were all well behaved and appeared to have fun, which made it easy for all of us to sit down and enjoy a few margaritas and beer.

Friday night went to Artwalk in our little town and walked around. We Found this great vintage lawn seating set. Bobby spent the weekend repainting it to match our other chairs, then my job will be to make the cushions. I'll take pictures soon. It came with this awesome 1960"s yellow polkadotted umbrella which will be a perfect theme for the back deck. Circus inpsired.

Saturday was the birthday party and clean up around the house. Then Sunday, Bobby finished the chairs/seats, put new brakes on the car and I spent the morning making shorts for the wedding for Ilin. They actually came out just like the shorts all the big guys are wearing. They are a bit Fugly, but I didn't pick them and for a beach wedding, this is what you wear, linen Beachy drawstring. I didn't have a pattern so it took me about 4 hours, mostly because I initially hemmed one of the pockets backwards and had to do a redo. I hope someone brings an iron.

Sunday evening, after Olive's swim class, which she failed again, we were all exhausted. The kids made their famous "health Mac n Chz, with mixed veggies in it and Bobby and I had burgers...relaxing on the back deck. This week is going to be hellish getting everyone ready, but it will be worth it.

I'll post the chair pictures tonight.
write ya later

Double vision

I woke up this morning to find my eyeballs puttied together like nobodies business. It was as if I had slept 18 hours with my eyes semi cracked so that they dried up and crusted over. It was disgusting. After the momentary panic of believing I had gone blind in the night, I patted my way along the wall to the bathroom to try to steam them open.
I got in the shower and and still couldn't see. I started to panic. Cursing the new contacts I got on Monday. Those contacts are killing my eyes. They are daily wear contacts and are supposed to be healthier for my eyeballs than the ones you wear for a month. I don't believe it.
I got out of the shower and dried my pitiful pink eyes and about cried thinking how I have to poke my finger into my eye and place another contact in there today in order to see. I put the left one in...wahhhh I hate these things, when are my glasses going to be ready, stupid eyes!!?? I put the right one in and then started getting ready for work. Every time I blink it feels like sandpaper. whimper , whimper. Oh my God, I'm going to have to be blind today, which I can't be, because I really am blind and there is no way I could even do anything that involves seeing, which would eliminate work, let alone driving to work. I looked in my eyeball to see if maybe the contact was in inside out or if there was possibly a tree growing from my cornea. Maybe I just need to rinse it off. So I take the left contact out and out come 2 contacts! One was rolled up behind my pitiful eyeball! GROSS! but once it was out it feels like a new eye. How do you put 2 contacts in one eye? This is why blind people shouldn't have to do this stuff.
Reminds me of the time my girlfriend had 2 tampons in....but I'll save that for TMI Thursdays.

please let my glasses be ready today...please

The Office/Hen House

My work is so stupid...wait, let me rephrase that, the PEOPLE at my work are so stupid.
Today we have a departmental meeting which is mandatory to discuss workplace friendliness.

REALLY? please.
Don't talk friendly with me...I am the most down to Earth, tell it like it is, friendly person here.

It's literally like living in an episode of "The Office".
There is an area downstairs where they do pre-registration phone calls. I call it the Hen House.
New people who get hired for that position, never stay down there. There is no light, the women are either crazy or go crazy from working down there, and they appear to turn into weird rotting shells of people.

Today for the meeting we must enter that Hen House and try to figure out what happens to grown adults once they start working in that room. They can't get along, they bicker between them selves, and they basically stop doing anything to help anyone.

They have survived down there for a long time without any intervention, but last month we hired a new person who spent one week down there, came back up stairs and went straight to the supervisor and said, "What the hell is wrong with those people down there?"

I about fell out of my chair. Bwahahahahahahaha

I laughed and laughed and laughed.

The new person looked at me and stated, "They told me you were a Bitch...."

What ? ME!? whatever...you will soon see the light, or not, since you are stuck down with the smock wearing, comfortable shoe wearing, ergonomically seated, fat-rearended clucking group of 40-50 somethings that can't play well with others.

So, Friday when I was out, some poopie hit the fan, someone started crying (that person is 52 years old), the new person left a note on my desk that said , "you are NOT the Bitch...I figured out who is." and now there is a mandatory meeting.
Ha...
That same new person asked me as I passed her in the hall this morning, "Should I take the high road at the meeting, or say my mind?"
I smiled and said..."the High Road is an easier walk."

But I secretly hope she speaks her mind.
Bitch.

Cash at Hand

Where there is a will there is a way.
I was just sorting through my school paperwork and i saw something I didn't quite catch before.
My work, the hospital, will pay up to 1000$ of my school for 2009. Well, I had all ready filled out the paper work for the Patho class I took and didn't think I could go ahead and get cash for the next semester also.
Low and behold in little writing it says
"if you plan to take 2 separate semesters do ot forget to fill out a second form and submit before the second semester starts"

WOO HOOO.

My nursing transition class is 600$...should be covered in full.
Yesssssssssss!!!

Sorry for another horribly boring post...but that is pretty much my life right now

A Password to Remember, or not.

How did we become so secretive? It's a strange thing to think about. Back in the day, the spouse would have a secret affair and actually have to plan it out to make it work. Cover their tracks, find a clandestine (you like that word?) hotel to meet. It was actually work. I'm sure just the mere thought of all that work kept some people honestly safe. Too lazy to even go out and get some on the side.

I like that.

Makes me feel safe. See, I am horribly insecure in my relationship, as you may have noticed from past posts. In many old relationships I was the last to know....and being the last to know is not just painfully idiotic and heart wounding, but also puts a nice big imprint on your frontal lobe which will never let you move past, sideways, or around a similar situation without fear. I'm like Pavlov's Dog. I remember...ouch...I remember.

The Internet, iPhones, Texting, Facebook, Craigslist, Ashley Madison...you name it, it has removed any sort of safety net within a relationship. A click of the phone and a naked picture can be sent (just for fun), or a little online back and forth chit chatting can make the mundane life at the office seem even worse. I have friends which you email or text and they send something back within , let's say, 2 minutes. To me, that suggests either they have absolutely nothing going on in their life, they are too occupied with the phone, or they are waiting for someone fabulous to text them and I happen to be stuck in the middle. It bothers me.

It bothers me that we all have our own "accounts". How many of you know your significant others passwords or accounts? I don't, and when I do, I check them...and usually find weird shit and think, that is exactly what I get for looking. I have one email account which I've had since computers were invented and this blogger account...he has my passwords. I have stopped using Myspace, can't figure out Twitter, I hardly use my cell phone, and I never chat...because I'm not to be trusted. I would chat with Charles Manson if he IM'd me. Seriously. I have no boundries, because things are too easy. All You have to do is IM me and say, "wow,I love your typing skills" and I'm hooked. Online affair at it's finest. If I'm that easy, I can only imagine how the men are. A few emails and naked picture, who could pass that up? Not any man I know. ( let me clear something up, when women send pictures, it's to get you to notice, when men send pictures to women...it's freaky. I don't want to see your flagpole in a 2 inch shot on my iPhone...it freaks me out)
I don't want to find myself in a predicament like John Edwards wife...."What? you have a love child?! How the hell do you have time for that? OHHHHHHHHH? you met her on Myspace, sent a few dirty pictures then met at the hotel across from the Pentagon??...The little colonial looking hotel? Wow, and I thought you were at work, campaigning across America. I know I have put on a bit of midsection weight, but a child?!! and she's 6 months old!? I have been fighting Cancer, I thought you loved me............you couldn't have waited 6 more months until I'm dead?

Yeah, sucks...it's a wee bit embarrassing. See, you don't need time and planning anymore. You just twitter a meeting spot or look up a "non prostitute" on Craigslist, how about a girl who will date you for a donation?...and you are done. No one needs to know the wiser, and how could they? They don't have your password.

The Mighty 18 Wheeler

Spent the weekend at CD release Parties.  Fun.  Got some good pictures of the guys.  Glad that it 's over, because I'm tired.
My son is sick with the flu...and not the oinky one, so today I am cleaning the house and care taking.  It's weird being a nurse and having to take care of your family.  I never know what to do.  I feel bad for them...here have a cracker...sip some flat gingerale....For this I went to school?

Thanks Ira Glass

I'm an Ira Glass freak.  He is the commentator on "This American Life"...Last night I was able to go see the re-screening of the live performance of "Returning to the Scene of the Crime".

I am encouraging and asking everyone to take an hour...put it on your ipod, or listen to it at work on the computer (I do this while I'm doing my paper work).  If you get a chance to watch it...it's even better...to see the expressions of the writer's faces.  We sometimes forget that writers are real people and these are real experiences

To my family...please listen to it...there is a part in the middle done by Dan Savage, which really hits home.  So even if you are not a NPR fan (which I don't understand how you can't be)...check it out, let me know what you think.

I think I can convert some of you

spring has sprung

Tonight Bobby took Ilin to band practice with him and Olive and I made Tuna Melts...exciting I know.
When we were done preparing, I Forman Grilled them, then placed Olive with food, short table and babysitter ( yeah, whatever Homey...it's called the TV), and came down to write.
I'm sitting here with my tuna-melt and glass of white wine...and nothing to say.
The George Forman grill rocks ass.  I can definitly say it was the best 17$ my cheap ass has spent in a while.  Jorge was right when he says you can grill anything with half the fat....mmmm....mmmm good.

shit...i spilled my wine...

I'm back, don't anyone fret.

As Spring has Sprung I am frantically trying to get my yard in order.  Colorado weather only allows us for about 1 month of beautiful green grass then it gets firecrotch hot and turns everything brown.  So brown that you can't often remember the green.

Spring is my favorite time of year.  Fresh, clean, new beginnings and a time to forget the mistakes and start over.  Bobby and I had started digging out the front round of the grass 2 years ago.  I just couldn't decide what to put with the house.  An English Garden is honestly what I wanted but our house is very 1964 modern and the free form garden would not Ying and Yang, if you know what I mean.
I finally decided on zebra grass.  It's an ornamental clumping grass and I thought it would stick with the modern theme with it's light and dark leaves.  So, my tiny sprigs of zebra grass came in an unbelievably small box and I planted them, with love and hopes of something lovely.  We also planted the hanging tomatoes, the hot peppers and the cilantro.

1977? My Family was Fancy

That's my sister ...the brown one :)
Aunt Kathy is sporting the Sophia Loren's.
what are these people doing?
The real question is?
Who took these crappy pictures and who decided to save them?
they are so nicely centered...the time before we had photoshop.

The cameras put this nice orangey haze and not quite enough pixels....Perfect everytime. No Zits No wrinkles.

Style hasn't changed much in the past 30 years.
Check out my brother Jamie sporting the Izod and My mom in her high-waisted Palazzo "everyday pants".
What is on her head you may ask? Vintage Hair Extensions (state of the art back then).
Mom was a "dancer"...she had nice long bleached blond hair, then wadded it up and stuffed it either under a wig or a hairpiece with ALWAYS a scarf, which of course matched her outfit.

(another nicely centered picture...probably drunk)

That was not our house, we lived in a mansion on MiddleBrook Dr. with a huge swimming pool in the backyard, on the river, with boats . We were fancy...this part of my family was not.
My mom raised ducks in the backyard. Taught them to swim in the pool...then my dad complained when all the ducks would come back as adults and land in the pool.
My mom thought up a good way to designate the shallow end of the pool from the deep for the kids. She had a HUGE Budweiser sticker made....Drained the pool had it put in right where the slant of the deep end started....
My family was fancy....it was an Olympic size pool ( I kid you not), so you can imagine how big the sticker was.

My brothers had a lot of these T-shirts.

Like I said ....
we were fancy.

Sunday Secrets

Post secrets at work.
I have to make up a few hours so as not to use my vacation time, so that means sitting at work, filing, organizing and getting caught up. Then I break and read Post Secrets. I wish I could read them in the other languages. I'm guessing their secrets are pretty much the same as ours...it's universal isn't it?
Ilin's dad called me yesterday and said they were taking Robin to Moab for Mother's Day...he said he was sorry we haven't communicated much about it,but is taking Ilin.
OK...
I had hoped and planned now for about a month that Ilin would be home to babysit, but how could I keep him home if he has a vacation with the step mom to Moab in the works? I couldn't. That would not be a very good mom on my part if I did that. Sacrafice...That is what it is about. It's ok. The kid deserves a vacation, probably more than I do.
My schedule is full and a weekend home will be ok, even if it is the CD release party. I don't think he will even notice if I am there or not. Besides, I need to work on sewing Ilin's shorts for the wedding. I have the shrug to finish and I need to really get organized before school starts. I have been putting it on the back burner and have been doing all kinds of goofy things instead of what I should be doing...let me give you an example: Instead of figureing out all my liscencing and such to do clinicals, I spent an hour or so looking up composting.
After that, instead of figuring out my school/work schedule....I looked up the smallest feet in the world.

could someone tell me what is wrong with me.

Yesterday...I took a Xanax, drank a glass of the crappiest plum wine ever (don't buy plum wine made by the same people who make soy sauce), and then went to Target. I wandered up and down every row, listening to Olive's endless diatribe about Polly Pockets and Lil Pets...vacant.
Listened to David Bowie and wished I had more Xanax.
